It was a beautiful day so we went searching for leaves! We later wrote adjectives describing our leaf characteristics.
The students worked in groups creating character pumpkins for three books we have read recently in our classroom. We created the spider from Diary of a Spider, Despereaux (the mouse) from The Tale of Despereaux, and of course the cat from The Cat and the Hat!
We are learning the routines and expectations of our Daily Five rotations. We have been building our stamina and can now read to self for 16 minutes! Our first day flew by! We spent the morning going over building wide expectations and labeling our folders and notebooks. We also went to music and went over bus safety. The students enjoyed doing some get to know each other activities before going to lunch. After lunch, we read a story about a mouse named Chrysanthemum. She begins to believe her name is "absolutely dreadful" after being teased about it at school. At the end of the story she finds out her teacher is also named after a flower and names her baby after Chrysanthemum. We discussed thinking about what we say before speaking and only using kind words. I am excited to get to know my second graders throughout the week and year! |
